A standalone prep in the Surrey commuter belt that feels blissfully bucolic and rural, The Hawthorns is set on 35 acres, with ancient woodland, a lake, orchards and vegetable gardens. Pupils can begin in the nursery at age two; in the upper school, lessons follow the Hawthorns Compass Curriculum – the best of the Common Entrance syllabus combined with wider working skills. We like the sound of the residential trips, which include a week in Angers for Year 6, who visit their French penpals, and a watersport holiday for Year 8 leavers. ...
