Students excel in Oxford University Physics Olympiad

Wolverhampton Grammar School students awarded for their achievement in British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) competitions hosted by Oxford University.

Fifteen Wolverhampton Grammar School students have been awarded for their achievements in British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) competitions hosted by the Oxford University. These prestigious competitions are designed to encourage the study of physics and recognise excellence in young physicists.

Upper Sixth students, Olu and Vishwas, participated in Round 1 of the Senior BPhO in November; both achieved a Silver award, putting them in the top 36% of 2830 students who took part nationally.

At the beginning of February, thirteen Year 11 students participated in the Intermediate Physics Challenge Online. Three students: George, Marc and Mason, achieved a gold award, placing them in the top 16.8% out of 5653 students nationally. Six students received a silver award, and four achieved bronze.

Teacher of Physics, Kate Wainwright, who encouraged students to participate, commented “Our purpose-built Physics laboratories, alongside dedicated technicians and expert staff provide an ideal environment for our students to succeed as young physicists; our students recent success in BPhO competitions is a fine reflection of this and we congratulate them on their achievements.”
