Double triumph for Rugby School at Lord's in U18 National Cricket Finals
Rugby School celebrated an extraordinary day at Lord’s cricket ground on Tuesday 1 July as both the Girls’ and Boys’ 1st XI teams were crowned U18 National Cup champions, claiming the most prestigious prize in UK schools cricket.
In the U18 Girls’ 100-ball final, Rugby delivered a dominant performance against Barton Peveril Sixth Form College. Amu starred with a match-winning all-round display, scoring 51 off 41 balls and taking four wickets for just 16 runs. She was superbly supported by spin duo Florrie and Niamh.

While the girls were receiving their trophy in the historic Long Room in the Pavilion, the boys began their T20 final against Clifton College. Bowling first, Harry struck in his opening over to give Rugby an early breakthrough. Jack followed with an exceptional spell, taking four for 16 from his full quota of four overs – an effort that dismantled Clifton’s top order.

Player of the Match, Rory, batted with the same cool head that had seen Rugby through the semi-final against reigning champions, St Peter’s York, striking 65 from 43 balls including five sixes. Captain Jordan wrapped up the game with three towering sixes, sealing an eight-wicket victory.
Debbie Skene, Director of Sport at Rugby School, said: ‘I am so proud of both our teams – all Sports Scholars - and for their thrilling victories, achieved in such punishing heat. Their skill, teamwork and fielding intensity were superb. We are lucky to have an exceptional coaching staff, led by Michael Powell, whose hard work and guidance have been instrumental. But the day belonged to the students. What a magnificent way to end the School year!’

Michael Powell, Head of Cricket at Rugby School, said: ‘
I am proud of all the girls and boys who performed so calmly on Lord’s, the biggest of stages. Every member of the two squads has worked tirelessly this summer and thoroughly deserves to be crowned as National Cup winners.’
On the eve of both matches, the Rugby School teams were presented with Finals shirts by Rugbeian Jacob, now playing for Warwickshire, Royal Challengers Bangalore and England. A heartfelt video message from fellow Rugbeian Maia, currently representing Hampshire, Southern Brave and England, added further inspiration.
