Children’s author Cressida Cowell speaks to students at Wetherby Preparatory, Marylebone
Cressida Cowell MBE, the award-winning children’s author, spoke to students on Tuesday at Wetherby Preparatory School in Marylebone, to promote a love of reading and share the joys of writing.
Cowell is best known for the How to Train Your Dragon series, which became a successful media franchise following the adaptation by DreamWorks Animation.
Speaking to students from Years 3-5, alongside students from neighbouring school St Mary’s, Cowell discussed her writing process, how she comes up with the ideas for her books and what made her want to be a writer. She also talked about her latest books - Doom of the Darkwing and Which Way to the Future.
The talk was part of Wetherby Prep’s enrichment programme, which focuses on reading for pleasure, with the aim of engaging students in literature, building an interest in reading and the creation process of writing.
Velvet Grainger, Head of Years 3, 4 & 5 at Wetherby Preparatory School Marylebone, said: '
An exceptional talk that seized our pupil's attention, inspired their creativity and most importantly reminded them that everybody has the power to be a writer, but only a few have the courage to tell their story.'
