Royal Hospital School Choir Performs at St Paul’s Cathedral
The Royal Hospital School (RHS) was once again honoured to participate in the prestigious Annual National Service for Seafarers, held at St Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday 8th October.
This historic service, dating back to 1905, commemorates and celebrates the invaluable contributions and sacrifices of seafarers from both the past and present.
The event brings together representatives from the Royal and Merchant Navies, maritime organisations, shipping companies, veterans’ associations, and educational institutions, all united in paying tribute to the maritime community.
This year, the RHS choir performed alongside choirs from London Nautical School and Pangbourne College, creating a powerful and memorable musical presence within the Cathedral. The pupils of RHS sang beautifully, with their performances contributing greatly to the atmosphere of reflection, solemnity, and celebration.
A particular highlight of the day was the participation of the school’s Heads of School (year 13 pupils Freddie Thornton and Estelle Lewis), who had the distinguished honour of presenting the Royal Hospital School Banner to the Princess Royal, senior Royal Navy personnel, and hundreds of esteemed guests in attendance.
The involvement of RHS in the service reflects not only its rich maritime heritage but also its ongoing commitment to musical excellence and civic engagement. For the pupils, the opportunity to perform in one of the country’s most iconic religious venues, and in the presence of such distinguished guests, was both a significant honour and a memorable experience.

The Annual National Service for Seafarers continues to serve as a key moment in the maritime calendar, offering a time to pause and honour those who have served and continue to serve at sea.
