King’s Cricketers Named in England Squad
Two young cricketers from King’s Worcester have been called up to the U19 England cricket squad.
Upper Sixth students Bryony Gillgrass and Phoebe Brett will train with the team over the winter months at Loughborough University and hope to play in the tri series in Australia in March and April next year.
Their selection is an exciting step in the girls’ cricket careers, as the squad gears up for the U19 World Cup in 2027.
Phoebe, 17, is no stranger to the international stage; she played a key role for England in the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in January 2025, despite being the youngest player in the squad. She has also played for the ECB development women's XI against the West Indies women's teams. This summer, she played in the prestigious tournament, The Hundred, for Birmingham, Phoenix alongside a host of international stars.

Last summer Bryony was selected for the U19 England Development Squad training camp, before going on to play against Scotland A in a number of fixtures at Loughborough.
Their exceptional talent has already won them both professional contracts with Warwickshire, while Bryony also plays for Worcestershire.

Both students balance their demanding cricket schedule with their A level studies, with Phoebe studying PE, Psychology, Geography and Bryony studying Art, PE, and Religion & Politics.
Bryony commented:
'I’m so happy that my hard work has paid off and excited for the opportunity. I’m one step closer to my ambition of being a professional cricketer.'
Simon Greenall, Director of Cricket at King’s, said: '
We are exceptionally proud of Pheobe and Bryony, who have worked incredibly hard to achieve this. They are both talented and committed members of the King’s Girls’ 1st XI and we are excited where this opportunity takes them.'
The 2024/25 cricket season at King’s was highly successful, with both girls’ and boys’ teams delivering a string of outstanding performances. This included the Girls’ 1st XI claiming victory in 11 of their 15 games, including a memorable win over the Marylebone Cricket Club.
