Pupils at Boundary Oak School Lead a Year-Long Effort in Kindness and Community

Students and teachers at Boundary Oak have donated £4,184 to numerous selected charities, after 2,906 hours were volunteered to charitable acts in 2025 as part of their ‘Kindness Counts’ initiative.

Kindness Counts encourages students to proactively support others in the school and wider community. In its third year, it continues to highlight the significance of reciprocating kindness. From simple everyday acts of kindness to more complex projects, the initiative has been successful on a local, national and global scale.

Donations to Boundary Oak School’s selected charities, WWF, Dogs Trust and HoneyPot Children’s Charity, were raised through a variety of fundraising events led by the school’s Charity Club. Over the year, they baked 250 gingerbread biscuits, handcrafted 150 friendship bracelets and Kindness Counts badges, led a community dog walk, and hosted a Whole-School beach clean. A highlight was the Buzz for a Cause event. It saw the Whole School work together in their extracurricular clubs to make honey cookies, bumblebee clay models, bookmarks and beeswax candles, and saw the school awarded the 2025 Independent Schools Association Charity Champion Winners. Viv Carter, Community Engagement Officer at Honeypot Children’s Charity, said:

'We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Boundary Oak School who put so much energy and enthusiasm into fundraising to support Honeypot young carers. The Buzz for a Cause event was fantastic, and our mascot Bumble really enjoyed being involved. The money raised is enough to provide all the meals and treats for 55 young carers aged 5–12 during their annual three-day respite break at Honeypot House, giving them the chance to relax, have fun and simply be children.'

The students have consistently hosted a wide range of events to build connections within our community including donating 500 food items to Fareham Food Bank, collecting 80 pairs of socks for Stone Pillow, visiting the MacMillan Unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital and singing carols for local residents.

Lisa Caruana, Director of Personal Development at Boundary Oak School, highlighted the wider purpose of the initiative:

'Kindness Counts is about far more than fundraising. It helps children understand the value of giving their time, care and energy to others. We are incredibly proud of the empathy, initiative and genuine desire our pupils show to make a positive difference.'

Looking ahead, the school intends to build on the strength of the Kindness Counts initiative, with more fundraising events scheduled for 2026. It’s charity partners for the new year include Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Dementia UK, and Bethan’s Fund, a charity held particularly close to the community.
