Year 7 Discover Science Showcase

Year 7 has enjoyed an exceptionally busy and exciting term, carrying out their very own independent science investigations.

In January, pupils were challenged to develop their own ‘Big Question’, which they researched before planning, designing, and conducting an experiment to test their ideas.

The result was a wonderfully diverse range of scientific enquiry, featuring everything from melting, burning, dunking, planting, counting, catapulting, monitoring, and even bubble blowing. At one point, more than thirty different experiments were running simultaneously across the school laboratories - a fantastic reflection of the pupils’ curiosity and creativity.

After collecting their data, pupils carefully analysed and interpreted their findings before presenting their conclusions on scientific posters. They then shared their discoveries with an audience of parents, guardians, and teachers, alongside David Dickinson and Paddy Flannery (heads of science at Charterhouse and Edgeborough respectively). The pupils were outstanding, presenting their results with confidence, enthusiasm, and genuine pride.

The Windlesham Science Department is immensely proud of the dedication, resilience, and scientific thinking demonstrated by Year 7 throughout this ambitious project. Experiences such as this provide pupils with a truly valuable insight into how science works in the real world - driven by curiosity, investigation, and discovery.
