Papplewick is proud to have launched its first ever Maths Battle Tournament
A new inter-schools mathematics competition has been launched at Papplewick designed to celebrate high level problem solving, teamwork and strategic thinking in an exciting and competitive format.
Teams are competing head to head across 6 carefully designed problems engaging in structured mathematical debate where pupils are expected to present, justify and defend their solutions rather than focusing on final answers , rewarding clarity of reasoning, logical argument , strategic thinking and of course effective teamwork. This offers a rigorous, dynamic and highly engaging atmosphere throughout.
The inaugural tournament, currently underway, brings together 8 schools including Papplewick, St Paul's, Crossfields, and St Anthony's to name a few for a series of battles placing reasoning, communication and collaboration at the heard of mathematical success. The competition will be judged by a special guest from We Solve Problems, Kings College London, George Clements who will add an expert academic perspective to the event.
This tournament has been designed not only to challenge pupils academically, but also to develop confidence, resilience and communication skills, and by working under pressure pupils experience mathematics as a shared, creative and deeply rewarding discipline.
All participating pupils will receive a Certificate of Participation recognising their commitment and achievement and the winning team will be awarded an annual Papplewick Trophy with runners up being presented with a Certificate of Achievement to recognise their outstanding performance.
