Celebrating the Opening of our Rochester Bridge STEM Hub

We were delighted to welcome so many members of our King’s community to the official launch of our new Rochester Bridge STEM Hub earlier this week – a wonderful occasion that brought together pupils, parents, alumni, Governors and friends of the school to celebrate this exciting new chapter for Science at King’s.

It was especially lovely to see so many budding engineers of all ages – from Year 1 through to Sixth Form – enjoying the lecture, refreshments and the opportunity to speak with experienced engineers from the Trust and our alumni.

Made possible thanks to the generous support of the Rochester Bridge Trust, the Rochester Bridge STEM Hub forms part of our wider refurbishment of the Science facilities and reflects our commitment to sustaining excellence across all four STEM disciplines. The project represents a significant investment in our estate and aligns closely with our curriculum strategy, ensuring our pupils develop the scientific understanding and employability required to thrive in a globalised world.

It was a privilege to welcome Sue Threader, Bridge Clerk of the Rochester Bridge Trust, who delivered an inspiring lecture and fascinating insight into the world of engineering through her talk, How Many Engineers Does It Take to Make a Cup of Tea? (around 5,000!).

Congratulations once again to our bridge-engineering workshop winners, the ‘Bridge Besties’ – Lyla and Elizabeth – who were presented with their prize by Bridge Warden Russell Cooper, who also performed the official ribbon cutting to open the Rochester Bridge STEM Hub.

We are hugely grateful for the Trust’s support in bringing this shared vision to life. By utilising these state-of-the-art, multi-disciplinary spaces, we will continue to support education across our local area, providing young people with the tools and dispositions for life-long learning and helping them to become the innovators and engineers of tomorrow.
